MAPSIGNAL — FREE INSTRUMENT FOR DRIVER SMARTPHONE OR TABLET
The MAPSIGNAL mobile app transmits the coordinates and statuses of a cargo delivery to the dispatcher’s screen where the entire route can be monitored in real time. The office is informed of the progress of delivery, thus increasing the safety of the driver and minimizing his distraction from the road.
POSSIBILITIES AND ADVANTAGES
The MAPSIGNAL mobile app was created on the basis that the driver only needs assistance. Forget about long-winded phone calls with reports to your delivery operator! MAPSIGNAL will do it all automatically; it displays your location in real time and reports any problems, even if you could not or forget to contact the operator.

MAPSIGNAL will give you a warning about bad weather
The mission or cargo status marked by you will instantly be seen at the office
START WORK — ENTER THE DELIVERY CODE
Before starting your journey, enter the delivery code received from your manager or dispatcher. The code must be entered directly onto the first screen of the mobile app. MAPSIGNAL recognizes the code and allows all the parameters necessary for this delivery to be automatically loaded.
This is a good way for you to test yourself to make sure that the work is completed consistently with nothing overlooked. The checklist has an auxiliary function and does not prevent you from entering the delivery code in the MAPSIGNAL app without it being completed
ASSIGN DELIVERY STATUS
Your real-time status notices will be displayed on the screen of an office specialist monitoring the delivery. If necessary, the manager can also change the delivery status, for example, in case of important events occurring on the route. After changing the status to "UNLOADED" the delivery is considered complete.
TURN ON GPS ON YOUR SMARTPHONE
Please make sure that the GPS on your phone is activated! MAPSIGNAL sends very little data, so there will be no noticeable cost of data transfer. If any part of the route lacks communication or roaming coverage, MAPSIGNAL can store information and, at the first opportunity, send all the collected data about the route.
For the convenience of the driver, all the actual information about the delivery is displayed on one screen. It shows the current delivery status, warnings about any problems, cargo parameters, loading, shipping, customs control (if any) addresses, planned calendar time for the route, distance travelled and travel time.
ONLY IMPORTANT NOTICES
Mobile apps can report on the most important events occurring on the road. These are always actual messages sent by the MAPSIGNAL services automatically or manually from your office. Please pay attention to the content of these notices as they can report urgent information as well as other necessary details.
COMMUNICATE VIA CHAT
Save on phone calls and communicate in a private chat with your delivery’s dispatcher. Send pictures of waybills, cargo or important developments. The chat is similar to other messengers and is intuitive and easy to use from the get go. The dispatcher will see your messages in the chat on his work screen.
PROPERLY CHARGE YOUR SMARTPHONE FOR A LONG TRIP
To stay in touch for a longer period, as well as to extend the lifetime of your battery, it is important to understand the essence of operation of your smartphone battery and constantly follow a few simple rules. They will help you maintain the service time of battery not only on the road, but throughout the entire life of your smartphone.
OPTIMAL CHARGE LEVEL
Almost all modern smartphones have a lithium-ion battery. It has no "memory effect" when the battery needs to be fully charged and discharged to zero so that it does not lose any of its capacity. Try to keep it charged more than half-full most of the time.
CONSTANT CHARGING IS USEFUL
The charger of modern smartphones is equipped with smart electronics, which stops the charging process when the battery is fully charged. After this, the charge goes directly, past the "resting" battery. Therefore, you can constantly keep the smartphone on charge, because the battery does not overheat.
Try not to drain the battery to zero too often. With time, this practice makes the batteries unstable when charging. To prevent the battery from explosion, a "fuse" is built into it and, under certain conditions, it disconnects the battery forever.
ADAPTER WILL NOT BURN UP
As is the case with your smartphone, the car charger has a built-in smart mechanism to cut the power in a timely manner. When the smartphone is fully charged, it automatically stops charging and then only occasionally feeds to maintain the power rate of 100%.
Download the mobile app from Google Play if you have an Android (for versions from 4.1 and up), or from the AppStore if you have an iPhone (for iOS versions 9.0 and higher). You can also use a phablet or tablet with appropriate versions of Android and iOS. The application is free and takes little space in the memory of your device. You do not need to enter any personal or billing data.
To start the operation of the application for your delivery, you need only carry out the following simple steps:
- enter the delivery (ride) code received from your manager or operator (at your office);
- complete the ride checklist (optional);
- assign the appropriate delivery status;
- check if the GPS is activated on your phone;
- start shipping the cargo;
- in case of important events on the way, you – as a driver – or your office can change the delivery status;
- after changing the status to "UNLOADED" by the driver or office, the delivery (ride) is considered complete.
The delivery code is a unique delivery order number encompassing all its parameters, including cargo, addresses, and dates. The code is automatically created by MAPSIGNAL via your office for each separate delivery. After you enter the code on the first screen of the mobile app, MAPSIGNAL will recognise it and automatically download all the necessary parameters of this delivery to get started.
This situation can arise from one of the following reasons:
- your mobile device has no Internet connection (data transfer mode via GPRS/3G mobile network or WiFi) and the application cannot contact the MAPSIGNAL service for checking the code and loading delivery parameters;
- the code entered is incorrect;
- the delivery linked to this code is already completed.
The route of your delivery is displayed on the map in the MAPSIGNAL online service as a blue line with checkpoints. Only that part of the route that has been passed will be visible. In addition, some actual route parameters are shown, such as the total travel time, travelled mileage, the current delivery status noted by you, indications of whether the data sent from your mobile device reached the MAPSIGNAL and some other conditions.
MAPSIGNAL uses the smartphone battery noticeably less than traditional GPS navigation apps. Nevertheless, it is RECOMMENDED TO CONNECT THE PHONE TO A PERMANENT POWER SOURCE. Upon operation of any app along with your smartphone GPS, the battery will discharge faster than usual. Therefore, it is advisable to keep your mobile device on charge throughout your journey. This will in no way affect the functionality of your smartphone or its battery.
At present, MAPSIGNAL operates in the following countries (in alphabetical order):
Afghanistan, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The MAPSIGNAL mobile application continues to work offline and accumulates various data during the course of the route. Later, as soon as the connection is restored, the data accumulated will be transmitted over the mobile Internet or usual Internet connection of the mobile device of the driver.
In the regular mode, the MAPSIGNAL mobile application sends data in small amounts of 44 Kbyte per hour. If your mobile device was unable, for some time, to transmit data via the mobile or normal Internet, at the next connection, the MAPSIGNAL application will send a little more data that accumulated during the time of communication failure.
There can be several reasons:
- the code was entered incompletely or with an error,
- the delivery with this code has been already completed or canceled, or
- there is no such code.
The chat in the app is activated at the same time as the delivery process. Drivers’ chat messages go straight to the web service of the dispatcher of the specific delivery, except when the dispatcher adds a manager to the delivery. The manager will receive all the same messages as the dispatcher in the chat for this specific delivery, including the images that are sent.
The driver’s chat with the dispatcher lets you send pictures from your smartphone’s gallery or send photos taken directly in the app.
